Some lives are like jazz: free, unforgettable, and capable of resonating forever. Andreina Gemelli is one of those. Visionary, passionate, and tireless, she envisioned the Miasino Classic Jazz Festival as a gift for Lake Orta, an opportunity to make these hills vibrate with notes that not only fill the air but leave an echo, both inside and out. Andreina was not just a founder; she was the soul of the festival, and her dream has become ours. Now we are here in the 2024 edition, celebrating a melody that continues to play.
The Festival and its creator
Founded in 2001 by the Pro Loco Miasino Tourist Association, of which Andreina was an honorary president, the Miasino Classic Jazz Festival has transformed this small village into a meeting point for jazz enthusiasts and curious visitors from around the world. Thanks to Andreina’s tireless passion, the festival has become not just a musical event but a true declaration of love for art and life. Every year, on August 5, 6, and 7, the enchanting Villa Nigra transforms into the vibrant heart of the festival, where great classics and new sounds blend to create a unique atmosphere. The Pro Loco Miasino, custodian of this legacy, will continue to carry forward Andreina’s dream, keeping alive the spirit that has made this event so special. Every note that resonates within the historical walls of the villa feels like a softly played thank you, a tribute to the woman who made it all possible.
Timeless 1920s: a theme, an epic
The 2024 edition transports us back to the 1920s: an era that made jazz a symbol of freedom, resilience, and carefree spirit—just like Andreina. This year at Villa Nigra, among its joyfully weary walls, the Chicago Stompers made us dance with feathers, Charleston moves, and that touch of rebellion that never goes out of style. Under the stars of Miasino, trumpets, double basses, and pianos seemed to escape from an old Duke Ellington vinyl. And in that moment, amidst laughter and applause, everything stopped: only jazz remained, with its unique way of saying “keep dreaming.”
An audience that breathes Jazz
This festival is an institution. It promotes jazz culture with an eye toward the future, attracting young artists and new listeners while also serving as a driving force for the local area. Each year, the small squares and alleys of Miasino fill with life, bringing tourism, energy, and visibility to a village that—let’s be honest—doesn’t need much to appear magical. Andreina wanted the festival to be a bridge: between notes and hearts, between past and present.
Jazz that never lies
Jazz has always been rebellion, expression, and freedom. That’s why in Miasino every concert is more than just a show: it’s a promise that the dream continues—a running note that says “no matter what happens, keep playing.” And so we will. Miasino will always be linked to her name and vision. New artists may come along with new themes, but that magic born from Andreina’s passion will remain: a jazz not only to listen to but to live and share under a sky full of stars.
Listen and tell me if it isn’t true
There’s a place just around the corner from Villa Nigra where jazz never stops playing. It’s there that Andreina still lives among notes and applause in the echo that accompanies us when we leave Miasino with fuller hearts. I won’t tell you; listen for yourself and then tell me if it isn’t true.
Thank you, Andreina.
